New Phase of Succession of the Bivalve Abra ovata Community in Sulaksii Bay, the Caspian Sea Yu. Ya. Latypov Russian Journal of Marine Biology 2002, Volume 28, Issue 6, pp 417-421 Abstract The study of the Abra ovata community existing on the flooded area of Sulakskii Bay in the Caspian Sea since the mid-1980s was continued. It was found that the pioneer species A. ovata and Cerastoderma glaucum still dominate in the community structure and define the course of succession despite a reduction in their population density and frequency of occurrence. The species composition and structure of the modern A. ovata community and the processes occurring in it are similar to the climax stage of the A. ovata community in the Middle Caspian Sea. Both mollusk species exhibit seasonal variations in number, which are due to predation by sturgeon and natural mortality. A steady annual decrease in the sea level, retreat of the water's edge by 80–100 m, and mass burial of the shells of bivalve mollusks in the drying-out innermost part of the bay were observed. |

Russian Journal of Ecology July 2004, Volume 35, Issue 4, pp 267-273 Succession in the Abra ovata Community on Soft Grounds of a Newly Flooded Area of the Caspian Sea Yu. Ya. Latypov Studies on succession in the Abra ovata community inhabiting the flooded area in Sulak Bay, Caspian Sea, that have been carried out since the mid-1980s were continued. It has been found that the pioneer species A. ovata and Cerastoderma glaucum are still dominant in the structure of this community, determining the course of its succession. Its second stage does not fit the framework of the models characteristic of benthic communities. On the one hand, it conforms to the tolerance model: the pioneer species A. ovata, despite its dominance at all stages of succession, has not prevented the spread of other numerous colonizers of the same trophic level. On the other hand, it conforms to the facilitation model: due to their abundance, the pioneer species as grazing species have attracted organisms of a higher trophic level, namely, sturgeons. |

С размерно-массовой структурой более менее можно разобраться.Как быть с половой структурой. Нигде не могу найти, гермафродит абра или нет. |
